Communication

It is  a Friday today. In this part of the world this is  a ‘Sunday’. Strangely in the virtual world that we all   have migrated to , the ‘day’ and time does not matter. The sun never sets on the cyber world. My queries of yesterday , my yesterday, are fetching me answers, even as I write this, from people who have just started their day. So has time ceased to be the fourth dimension . The working day or rather time seems to have become a continuum . But again , has it really transformed for all of us.

I work on my present through the mails and the forums that I am active in. Every ‘ping’ and pop-up window pulls me into the present and  ‘here’. It injects an urgency into me and make me react immediately. It obliterates all my ‘time management’ lessons and makes me drop everything and react.  The mails are so here and so now that you get a call asking ‘did you read my mail?’ within minutes. Are we seeing an overdose of communication .

But then is communication only about timeliness. what about effectiveness. Say what you mean and mean what you say – easier said than done. Past two decades I have been living and working in a multi-cultural  (multi-lingual actually) environment. In such a setting you will say what you mean, however you cannot be sure if it has been perceived as you meant it to be. The stereo types that have prejudiced us all our life, plays a big role in interpretation of what is said and heard.
